Arduino Project with Descriptions
Ultrasonic Security System
Old Proposal
My Arduino Project is to create a Ultrasonic Security System using an Ultrasonic Sensor, Above is the picture of what my finished my product will look like. an Ultrasonic Security System or sometimes called Ultrasonic intrusion sensor is a security is Device that can detect unwanted intruder within a certain range, it's commonly used in stores or markets to prevent thieves. In fact, a regular home or business security system can cost up to hundreds of dollars to install. My goal in this Arduino Project is to create a cheap, useful home Security System using a HC-SR04 Ultrasonic ranging Sensor and Arduino Uno board.
Ultrasonic ranging Sensor is small device that can use sound-waves to detect objects in its way, in this project, I will use the sensor and install it in front of my room to detect if any "intruder" is coming. The way my Ultrasonic Security Sensor will work is when someone approaches within the detecting range of sensor, a buzzer on the breadboard will go on and the lights on arduino will flashes to warn me that a person is coming. Furthermore, I can change the quantity of the buzzers to change the alert's volume and code the LEDs to arrange different flashing pattern. This Security Sensor will warn me ahead of time if someone is heading to my room so I won't be caught doing my "secrets". Also, by building the sensor by myself, I do not have to spend an extra $100 buying a real home security system. The inspiration of this idea came from the memory of me when I am young. Many times I hide in my room to play video games while my parents are gone and was forced to turn off the computer right before parents come home so they don't find out. A few times, I didn't realize they were home and kept playing until I got yelled at. This is the device I will make to help the kids to play video games safely without being found out by their parents. Or it can be very convenient to adult as well, this Ultrasonic Security Sensor can be installed in front of the main door of the house so when the robbers break in at night, the Alert will sound.

Stages of Work
- Wiring: Connect the Sensor to the Arduino breadboard as well as assemble other components (LED ----4 days
- Coding: Write codes for the Sensor when something came in range of the sensor, lights will lit and buzzer will go on ----4 days
- Testing: Test whether the sensor works fine ----2 days
- Modifying: Make adjustments or changes for the Project, adding the wireless Xbee module for wireless communication between the sender and receiver arduino ----8 days
- Improving: Adding Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) for better and convenient messaging displaying. ---- 7 days
- Testing: test to see how the wireless communication between two arduinos works as well as the LCD display ---- 4 days
- Perfecting: Make an artistic Cover for the Breadboard and the other components including Sensor so it looks like a finished product ----5 days
- Amending: make slight changes for any design flaws as well as fix any wiring if needed -----4 days
- Finishing: Once everything works fine, install the product onto the wall and it is ready for daily uses ----4 days
New Proposal--1-15-18Ultrasonic Detector with Wireless CommunicationTo built on top of the old project proposal I had for the ultrasonic security system, I decided to make the sensor to detect and send messages to my computer rather than triggering the alarm. With the help of my teacher, I found using the ultrasonic sensor to trigger a alarm when detects something at the doorway would be too annoying and unnecessary since there maybe lots of things happening at the doorway throughout the day and thus triggering the alarm multiple times. It would be far more useful to create a messaging system (With LCD) to inform me with pleasant notifications than noisy and loud alarm sound. the picture on the left is what I have so far. Also by adding the wireless communicator, it would require be 3 additional weeks of work time from my original proposal.
